View Full Version : Turnaround time?
Well, I'm looking to order my new pc a day or two after Christmas. Last, I heard the turnaround time was 3 weeks. I was just wondering if that timeframe is still accurate. Thanks! :D

Does the three week turnaround time apply to painted machines?

yes, of course

Of course. :D
You have competition that sometimes takes longer than three weeks just to paint the chassis before the machine is actually built.

anything that is on our website should be within that time frame, give or take a few days....the only way I would say it would be extended is if the buyer were looking for many specifics and alternate paint jobs, i.e. Custom designs and or unique paint, other then that we try to stick to our guns.
Tuesday I will be placing my order. I would like the drive covers to be painted as well, so I guess I will give Maingear a call after I place my order. :D
Hey Congrats on making a great choice with Maingear. I can say that you will be nothing but happy on how quick you get your pc. Good Luck!!!

Hey Congrats on making a great choice with Maingear. I can say that you will be nothing but happy on how quick you get your pc. Good Luck!!!
I wish I was nothing but happy about getting it quickly :( I ordered a PC on the morning of January 2nd and it has not yet shipped, four weeks later. It was a straightforward order, with no custom painting and nothing beyond what is available on the web order form.
This is my first time ordering from Maingear and I must admit I'm getting slightly concerned. Hopefully, the quality of the PC will make up for the failure to deliver within the stated turnaround time.

Hi Ambrynn, I ordered my PC on Jan 3rd and I got a call from Raphael a few nights ago and he told me my sysytem should be shipping Thursday. I would imagine your machine will be shipping at around the same time. Hang in there! :D

It saying 4 weeks is just an estimate.
I do not know if there are "problems" going on right now, but 99% of the time
if the system is not done in the 4 week time period it means parts were delayed.
I do not know your exact system specs, but I would say your system should be moving right along.
Hope to see some pictures soon.

Hi Ambrynn,
we 're all in the same boat. I ordered 12/30 actually, but I have spoken to them a few times. I could see mine being built in the pics Plan1x posted. I started getting a little anxious last week, but you can avoid being a knucklehead like me by simply just calling. they will be str8 up with you.
They got a bucket of business around the latest [H] reviews etc, so they are slammed.
Just call and ease your fears!

Hello Ambrynn and welcome to MAINGEAR Forums.
There is nothing wrong with your order. Ever order is taken care of in the order that it was received. Unfortunately our wait time has been a little longer then expected since the holidays. I am not here trying to make excuses but Dreamer was right with what he has said. We have experienced horrible delays with parts. And because of the delays it is making us look bad. I know you said you had a straight forward order but even simple parts such as ram have been on backorder. I am sure if you call into MAINGEAR they will reassure you that there is nothing wrong and might even help calm any concerns. I also want to mention that we don't just ship a machine as soon as it is built. We test ever machine vigilantly and will hold on to it until we think it is perfect and meets our standards to be shipped.

so this is a backlog from the holidays, not necesarily in machine orders but a lack of parts?
maybe it could be hardocp's favorable end of the year awards giving you a big surge of new customers (and hence the backlog may be from constant new business)?
i'm not trying to be a pest, but am genuinely curious if this backlog is temporary or if it's also maybe growth in general, since i may be ordering in a month or so when i'm settled in, but if the backlog isnt going anywhere i may place it sooner to account for this if it's still going on.

Spincut I never said the backlog had anything to do with the holidays I merely said it started with orders from the holidays. And Yes, lack of parts have played the absolute major role. How do you build a machine with no parts?

The backlog really has nothing to do with us. We are fully capable of handling our business.

All I can tell you is that we are fine. Our normal time frame is between 15-20 business days to get your system out. Due to the limitation of parts from all major distributors throughout the country (full effects of holiday season industry wide) we had delays on some parts. That has been taken care of and we are now actively taking care of everyones order. We plan on having the people that have ordered machines within the last two weeks back on that 15-20 day cycle. Do not quote me, that is the plan.

oh, that's excellent news! (although extra business due to growth is something to be proud of as well if it had been the case).
and what i had meant to say was that i thought the reason the parts were short or delayed might have had to do with the holidays, but i guess not.
And Yes, lack of parts have played the absolute major role. How do you build a machine with no parts?
Raphael was telling me the Soundcard I had ordered was on backorder (or something like that), so he gave me a free upgrade. MG get's props for a free upgrade rather than a longer delay. I would really love it if my machine shipped Thursday. :D Patience is key my friends.

wow that's choice, what soundcard were you trying to order? (because i know they took the extrememusic one off and added the both cheaper and pricier gamer versions, which was not only great since there's a more reasonable soundcard price, but makes more sense since they're called "gamer" editions......even though it's likely all the xifi cards are mostly the same aside from the pack-ins).
Yep, it was the extreme music. They bumped me up to the more $$$ option. I see Vista is being offered in the configurator now which means Pete is going to have a Private Message. :P

they upgraded you to the gamer 'fatality" edition, or the other pricier one? either way though, that's a good deal....well more like a lucky deal :o .

That's a good question. After I heard the word upgrade I got excited, but I did hear the word "fatality". Either way I'm a happy man. Hopefully Pete can work some magic and have Vista installed on my baby. :D

I'll have to do some digging to find out the difference, the information listed in the detail screen is identical for both the XtremeGamer Fatal1ty FPS and the Fatal1ty FPS. I read an article on them a while ago and it listed the differences but I can not remember what they are.
Although I believe despite what the detail screen shows I don't think the XtremeGamer version comes with the break out box (neither internal nor external) but you can buy one seperately and install it.

01-29-2007, 07:44 AM
oh, well i can clear this up.
firstly darkstar only one of them is "fatality" branded in maingears offerings in the cart if you take another look. and since HCA knows he heard "fatality" and it's the pricier version then he indeed got the extreme gamer "fatality".
what is the difference you ask?
well as far as i'm aware the fatality edition (whether it's extreme gamer, or the regular fatality that creative sells but is not offered from maingear) has special ram (64mb i beleive) to store and pre-load the sound data from a game. I'm not sure how well it works, seems more to help further unload the performance burden, but since the SB already does a good job of that, i'm not sure.
it may also have something to do with better quality, but a bulk of that you get already just buy using a Xi-fi from what i can see.
oh and the gamer fatality doesnt have a breakout box according to creative labs (but the regular fatality does).
still it's a great free upgrade i'd say even still, and it doesnt hurt to have a cheaper price for the lowest xi-fi either.

I wont be in the office till Friday. The best thing I can say for you to do is call in and hope you can get the upgrade before it is shipped. I would do that as soon as possible because I saw them working on a blue machine saturday(I don't know if it was yours our not but it could have been)

I am sure if you call into MAINGEAR they will reassure you that there is nothing wrong and might even help calm any concerns.
I called in twice. The first time was when the order wasn't processed for over a week. I called then to make sure everything was ok with the order and see if there were any questions I needed to answer. At that time I was told the delay in processing would not cause a delay in shipping the PC, and that the time for shipping would be calculated from the order date.
I called again last week when the machine still hadn't shipped. I was told it was being built and shipped last week and I would get an email with tracking information as soon as it was shipped. Last week is now over and I have yet to receive any indication the order has shipped.
While I can appreciate delays due to backordered parts, I'm feeling kind of brushed off when I have to keep calling to find out why nothing is happening, yet I see others having Maingear call them and give them free upgrades.
Hopefully Pete can work some magic and have Vista installed on my baby. :D

Now, I'm getting excited. I will shoot MG a call.
Update: Called into MG a few moments ago and my system is built! :D They had XP Pro installed already, but since MG is such a great company they're going to swap out XP Pro for Vista Business for me. :D

Grats!!!!!! My system should be shipping Wednesdayish. Pics and a review are a must of course. I have really enjoyed the MG experience so far, but I am slightly upset that my system is built and softwared and I didn't get the famous email like a lot of others have asking if I wanted anything installed and what resolution I preferred. MG has upgraded my Soundcard and OS free of charge so I guess I can't really complain. I just hope XB and I have a pleasant out-of-box experience. :D

Yes, there were a few cartoons that were like that in Britain but they aren't very good. You can watch USA television as normal TV in some parts of England but where I lived you had to spend around £150 thats around $240 for some TV. USA TV is much better than England's I think at least. Though the gap is getting smaller.

hey now, not all of English TV is bad, there's this show on the BBC i saw called Black Books that was amazingly good........
And you guys single handedly invented the oddly superior adolescent television show format with Teletubbies/Boobah......(as disturbing as i think those shows are to anyone with cognitive functions beyond a 1 year old child)

For those of you contemplating (or eagerly awaiting) orders, I just thought I'd mention my experience so far. I ordered on Monday January 29th, payment cleared my bank on Thursday February 1st, and according to Maingear, my order should ship today (February 15th). I'm impressed with the speed, given other people's posts on the forum (who, I must point out, are incredibly satisfied with their purchases).
As a disclaimer of sorts, I ordered a Prelude, so for those of you with crazy high-end F-131s with all sorts of fancy-pants expensive parts and overclocking, your experience may vary.
I'm almost too excited for words. Once it gets here, I will post a review that will almost certainly pale in comparison to XBarb's :) .

I think every boutique builder goes through these kinds of periods. I've never received a machine in less than a month. When you're back on schedule for deliveries in 15 - 20 days, that'll be excellent.
FWIW, I'd rather be told that I have to wait a bit longer than planned with straight, open candor, as is being done here, than listen to lame excuses and be led to think the machine will arrive "soon." Waiting is a PITA, but a great new machine is worth the misery of the anticipation. lol
