Greetings,
getting ready to purchase my first Maingear, plenty stoked. I'll speak to a Rep tomorrow, but I thought I wopuld ask you folks here:; Have any of you used a Killer Nic? The tech makes sense to me, anything that can be offloaded to a card, just like Audio, Graphics, etc..frees up cpu
So, any real reviews?
Does Maingear use it yet..or make available?
Thanks

Yea..I had read that review, TrinityX, thanks for reminding me to look at it again.
My thing is it totally makes sense. Any time you can off laod a cpu task to a blade, well, especially the Win TCP/IP tasks, makes sense to free up the system even more.
And the biggest whine generally seems to be the price, but at this point, I'm like, well..I'm gonna spend 4k for a Kick ass Maingear rig, whats the extra 250 ... People will spend that easily for the next CPU up the food chain... And..the biggest bangs seem to be in MMORPG, WoW specifically, and although I don't play WoW atm, I play EQ 1, which is very similar.
I am going to speak to a sales rep today, I am interested in seeing if MG offers it yet..although their willingness to satisfy the customer, I'm sure they would get it anyway, regardless..
Just seems to make sense..as long as they are reliable....
Time to look for a new router for me too. I have a 15M pipe from Road Runner, I suspect my 4 yo Linksys isn't exactly maximizing through put...

Well..placed my order.. Spoke to Giovanni. Just need to secure payment tomorrow.
Guess for now, I'll hold off on the KillerNIC, maybe I'll play with one as they mature. the concept still sounds like they are on a good path, imo.
I'm surprised that so far, no one here as any experience with it. Once again, I believe in the idea, of course it probably can't deliver huge bumps in power, but systems are not about single devices anyway, they are about the sum of several bumps. So, we shall wait and see..
Can't wait to get my Maingear!
