Read some reviews on the Nvidia SLI 680i motherboard and I like what I read. However, I'm more of an ATI guy when it comes with graphic cards; from some bad experiences in the past.

I was just wondering if there is a reason as to why there is no option for ATI X1950XTX (or any ATI cards) in the Maingear build your own system web configuration utility. Are there some compatibility issues with ATI pcie cards and the nvidia 680i mobo?

Now that VISTA is finally out, i'm going to make a move for a new system, and just thought I'd ask this question. If I'd ever decide to swap out an nvidia card for an ATI one, would that work, or am I looking for trouble? Thx!

They do offer the choice of ATi or nVidia on the products page.
That should be a direct link to the ATi configure system.

About the 680i board, I don't think it would run very well with ATi, as it seems to be nVidia specific.

Hope that helps.

Nosfera2 -

Welcome!

SLI is a proprietary term for Nvidia, as in Nvidia cards.

ATI's solution is called Crossfire!

Click that link!

I do believe to implement a Crossfire Solution, you need a different mobo product

If you are getting a new Vista system and prefer ATI products, it might be worth it to wait until the R600 (ATI's DX10 card) goes into production. It should be in the near future, at least if they want to compete in the near term with nVidia over DX10 gamers.

Plus, a lot of the cool overclocking functions of the 680i motherboard will only work if you have an nVidia GPU, as I understand it.

Yeah, i am familiar with ATI's crossfire. I was just wondering if there were any issues with an ATI graphics card on an Nvidia 680i motherboard, as to compatibility or something. I figuired there's a good reason why Maingear or Alienware for that matter dont list ATI graphic cards with the Nvidia 680i mobo., just wasn't sure what it is :)
