View Full Version : Prelude arrived!

I got my prelude in yesterday, and it has to be the best machine I've ever laid eyes (or fingers) on. I've been running all my old games at 100% everything on the graphics and sound, and where my old computer was smoking, this one is barely at 40% CPU.

And while I do appreciate the system and the work that went into it, I have some general complaints about it. More bad business practices...
1 I ordered a black case, and it arrived silver. Not that it matters, silver is good looking too, but you usually want to pay attention to what the order form says.
2 When confirming my order, I was told "Someone will call Tomorrow (Saturday) around noon." The call was received on Tuesday at about 7:00PM. Not nice to make your customers wait around for something that's not going to happen.
3 I was told that since the sound card had been back ordered for two days, my system's shipping was upped to three-day instead of five. While due to the time it was shipped, this would only up the actual delivery by one day, (FedEx doesn't run on Sundays) this upgrade apparently never happened, because the system still arrived 5 days later (not counting Sunday). It's definitely not got for the team if you promise something to the customer you can't or don't deliver.

That said, I'm not really complaining about the service, as from watching on here, and what I've read on other sites you guys are really helpful when buying. Combine that with the fact that I have general bad luck when buying things.

Anyway, I'm still really happy with the system and will probably come back when I need a new one.

I think Fed-Ex is slow sometimes. I am forced to order through Fed-Ex but there tracking and when it comes is really off the wall sometimes. Just a week ago I bought some thing and it was suppose to take about 3weeks it got to my house in 1week. But, most of the time its +10days until i get something.

Glad to hear your system is running up to your speed you want.
The other stuff, kinda sucks. Along with the mailing thing, I ordered something overnight and did not get it until 3 days later (not from Maingear). It just happens that your package did not get put through right or something.

Hope to see pictures.

The system arrived on FedEx's target date, but that date never changed from when they first shipped it, to when he said it would be upgraded, to the time it got here.

Warning...They're HUGE.
Other warning...My desk is messy.

LurkingEyes,

That's totally not acceptable. Could you please PM me your name so I can look up your order. I don't believe I ever recall us sending out the wrong color to any of our customers. I would like to compensate you for the mistake.

I'm glad you like your system, but if your not 100% happy, then I'm not 100% happy.

Wallace,

I have to say that I am impressed on your proactive response to this case.

LurkingEyes,

Did Wallace happen to take care of you? I'm sure he has tried to contact you by now... Let us know what has happened if you get a chance?

LurkingEyes

Yeah, he called me (really quickly too) and asked what he could do. I opted not to send it back, it's not that big of a deal, and it took me five years to get this thing, you're not taking it back!

Anyway, it was worked out and he's going to reimburse me for the shipping (which I'm thankful for).

Sounds like they made things as right as can be. Yeah spending that much time saving up for a PC, I can understand that.

Hope you enjoy your well earned computer.

Grats on a beautiful system. I take it than that only F131s are overnighted? I hope when I open the box tomorrow my system is blue w/ silver drives. :o

I wouldn't want to go as far as saying every F131 gets overnighted. I may be mistaken but I believe that if we overnight your system to you, it was because there was some mistake on our part. Whether it be a long wait time or if Wallace feels you live to far to take the bumpy ride across the country what ever it might be just know its more of a privilege, because we take a big hit in shipping over night. Not going to specify how much but put it this way, something in that pc would be free for that price.

That's pretty interesting. I don't think there was any mistakes, but I could be wrong. I only live approx. an hour from MG HQ too. Quote from a [H]ard review: Our system shipped overnight via FedEx (as is the norm with Maingear’s shipping), and we received our F131 on October 20, almost a month from when we placed the original order.

I won't hold it against you. Just curious. My build time was 28 days which I think is very reasonable. :D

Did that include weekends? Because if it did you were just about right on time.

I noticed TrinityX posted something about some intigraters taking up 50 or more days to get systems out.

Yep, that's with weekends. I know some Voodoo customers wait 2 plus months. I laugh at them.

Hey now, I own a Voodoo laptop, while my wait was that long. I ordered mine right before the holidays, and there were some complications going on at Voodoo (which I will leave out). But I am very happy with mine, as I know you guys will be with your MG rigs.

On a side note, Lets just make it clear that we are not bashing any other integrators here. Especially the one being spoken at hand presently. Maybe I should not have brought it up but I had no idea what integrator TrinityX was talking about when he posted that in the members only section. I just thought 50 days was WOW! I never really herd of that before. But I fully support wait time because I truly believe in quality over quantity.

I feel the same. I'm just pointing out observations I have read. Voodoo makes great machines, just have to wait awhile.

Ella...you naughty thing! batteries....hmmm....

Glad to hear lurkingeyes is happy!

Well, I have been dead exhausted today at work, stayed up til 3 am on my Gnarly Sponge Bob Model, F131! LOL

guys... *weeps*

seriously.. Can not be any happier! It's like INSTANT response. I got afree copy of MS Office 2007 2 weeks ago at the MS Vista Luanch event. I click Excel, it opens so fast that you dont even see the splash screen. seriously. Its like solid state. Bang..

My Maingear experience went beyond the reviews, beyond the hype! Stratospheric goodness!

The really awesome thing was being able to re do it all at once.. new Hand Crafted Custom Maingear rig, New KICK ass desk, new , OMFG Display, the Westy 37" LCD, new Klipsch Pro media 2.1. the whole experince came form the stone age to the 22nd century! all in one fell swoop!

Hey LurkingEyes and/or RottynDawg -

What (CPU) temps are your Preludes running at? Have either of you tried any overclocking?

RottynDawg
02-02-2007, 02:03 PM
I'm not at home right now but I've looked at it frequently enough to have it memorized...yeah, I'm a geek :)

CPU 40, SYS 33, GPU 53

I haven't overclocked mine yet but I plan to in the very near future with those temps. Not only that...but under full on gaming, EQ2, they only go up 2 degrees! The cooling on this system is insane; my other system goes up 15 - 20 degrees...Celsius.

What is your system running at?

Assuming things go normally, only 3ish weeks to go.

I ordered about a month ago and just got it last week. It plays doom 3 beautifully on max settings.....so freakin scary lol. I can't wait to try out FEAR and HL2. Only issue I had was a scare with my video card. It wasnt screwed to the chassis in transport and had been rattling around loose! A quick screw fixed the problem once I figured out how to open the case (felt like i was opening a puzzle box.) Hopefully it was just a simple oversight and not a quality issue since everything else inside was wired to perfection.

great to have more system pictures while the official gallery is being worked on.

but there's something i did not know abot the prelude, the blue light emenating from the front, didnt realize that came standard in any of the MG suff (like for the F131 the lighted fans in stuff came with the lighted window package).

again, good pictures.

ya the blue light in front was a suprise to me too. i usually avoid all the flashy accessories, but i have to admit it looks pretty sweet in the dark.
