I will be purchasing a new computer before the end of the month. The preconfigured systems appear to be mainly for gaming. My main purpose would be Digital Photography, Photoshop, slide shows, with an occassional game.

I would like a Core2Duo 6600, 2gb ram, 1-Raptor 150 Hard drive, 1-320GB.
I am uncertain of the Video card.

Are there any current owners of a Photo PC out there and what configurations do you you have.

Thanks.........Future MG PC owner

When you say Photo PC. You mean photo editing?

^I would assume so.

Really for editing (video/picture/etc.) the main things you need are:
~Fast HD for program & data
~Quick processor, also need the one that will benefit the most from the exact software you use. Single/Double/Quad core is what I am referring to.
~Graphics just need to be able to handle the video play back & rendering setup.

I do not know exactly what you are doing, that should be the general setup you want. Also RAM is basically 2/4, but probably 4gigs now as if you want Vista, and to run software at its max.

More detail on what you are doing exactly will help determine the minor things like about of RAM, processor, etc.

I mainly take a lot of digital photos. Copy them to hard drive then do post processing of batches of photos. Was thinking of getting the Core2duo 6600 with 2 or 4 gb ram. Is the Western Digital Raptor Drive worth the extra money? I would put my operating system and applications on that drive and put on a WD320 sata drive for my second drive.
Also, is there any downside from a 750 watt power supply. All the other suppliers give you about 5 to 600 watts.

Thanks

there never is a downside to more clean power available. All too often though, people have too small of a supply, and that WILL cause problems. So the larger supply is always good!

I think the extra cash is worth it for the Raptors. They are the fastest consumer grade drives available. After Raptors, its scsi etc..which really get expensive. I went with 2 Raptors in raid 0 for uber speed, which it is, but is also more vulnerable to data loss, which for what your doing, I wouldn't suggest.
