I figured I would hold off posting to see how well my Prelude worked after a few months of high stress use.

I find myself only giving customer reviews to items I have bad experiences with to warn people. This however is a wonderful exception.

Where to begin...where to begin.....ahhh of course the specs:
(You'll to have to forgive any information I leave out, I'm not your typical tech-savvy guy)

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor 3.21 ghz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 295
Windows 7 64 Bit (Recently updated from Vista)

Receiving it in mid-July after about three weeks of anticipation, I assembled my new rig as fast as possible. It booted up perfectly and ran smoothly, no initial errors or anything.

I installed many of my games on it (WoW, Call of Duty, etc.....) and instantly was blown away by the performance. I realize I didn't build a top of the line 'melt your face off' caliber computer, but I got some pretty good power for my uses. WoW (from which I recently retired) ran smoth as silk and was no match. Empire Total War (which is a bit more taxing) ran amazing at full settings. I have not had any serious issues with this computer and can say my expectations were exceeded.

Beyond performance, I must honestly say I have never encountered a company like MainGear before in terms of the phenomenal customer service and professionalism. A good friend of mine recommended MainGear to me and after weeks of hearing him rave on and on, I finally checked MainGear out.

Through the planning, building, and shipping of my computer I received unbelievable customer service. After dealing with some of the larger companies (Dell, HP) over the years, I could not believe the quality of personalized service I received.

Your business model is certainly working and your desired word of mouth advertising will continue on through me. I have already recommended you guys to two of my friends interesting in getting high performance computers. It is a real shame there are not more companies around like MainGear!

There is no question in the future you will receive my repeat business in the future!

A very pleased customer from the heart of VA!

Excellent review, Kevin. :)

To summarize on your extensive good review, Maingear truly does put the customer ahead of themselves and glad to read you had no problems.

Feel free to let readers from the internet know of your good experience, http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Maingear_Computers (a)

Sorry my reply to this thread isn't thought out, so will end with this (c)

Kevin, Great Review. Thanks for posting this and giving us the scoop of your experience. It really is wonderful to see that MG can consistantly live up to the remarkable standards they have set, in a world where most seem to be coming out dissapointed. Hats off to MG and Hats off to a wonderful experience!

P.S. I am going to move this thread to the customer review section.

Speaking of which,

A bit of your review and Kevin's is on their main page, I find that a kind gesture on their behalf. :)

I just LOVE reading reviews like this and more so when it is about the Prelude :) I have a soft spot for that model.

It's very interesting that so many good reviews come out on MainGear rigs, but surely someone somewhere has a bad review of their rig? Or is MainGear like totally perfect? If you look at other forums of the competition, there are numerous complaints of one thing or another not working correctly or BSODs after unpacking. Is it due to MainGear's quality control that pcs operate properly from setup?

Widdlecat, to answer that question, Maingear is not perfect. THey have had their share of complaints. However, years ago when Maingear was being created, Wallace invisioned a transparent company. One that didn't run from a problem nor treated a customer as if they are to blame. In that ideology, Maingear has always taken responsiblity for any mistakes or mishaps that may have altered a customers experience. In that respect, some people may have had a bad experience but always in the end could not say anything about the customer support being what it is, top notch.

Think what separates Maingear from majority customers is the ability to provide the customer with support if anything should go wrong/happen.

Companies say that sort of thing, yet never actually follow through with doing so and that, my friends, is what makes Maingear unique.

Or is MainGear like totally perfect?

No, they're not perfect. But they come closer than most other companies I've dealt with.

If you look through the forums, you will find the odd complaint post; loose bits, performance glitches, what have you. Usually, the next post is someone from Maingear asking that the person call customer service. And soon after that comes a post stating that the problem has been fixed and that everything is both hunky and dory. I've posted a couple of those myself--one dealing with an nVidia GTX 260 that just wouldn't play nice (it was replaced by a GTX 275), and one concerning an error in my Prelude's hardware configuration. The latter problem was corrected in such a way that the hardware in question is now much better than what I ordered, at no extra charge. Gus told me it was "the right thing to do," which is a phrase I still can't believe I heard from a customer service person.

You may also notice that Maingear personnel practically beg people with how-do-I-do-this questions to call customer service. They're very eager to help. I've seen any number of companies that make it quite difficult to even find out how to contact CS, much less actively encourage it.

So, while Maingear isn't perfect, it's not because of lack of effort on their part.

Yeah, we're humans, and we make mistakes, but we do try to make everyone happy.

In all the time I've been here on the forums, it amazes me that I've only heard of a few real complaints, other than real minor issues that were easily resolved. Although my last pc was purchased elsewhere and they resolved most issues in the end, they had complaints every week. However, a good many problems were due to an unstable OC the pc was shipped out with. That was "easily" fixed by removing the OC they were charged for...
