I'm on the brink of purchasing a new prelude system - but I'm not sure what sound card to go with. First of all I am going with XP (I'll let vista drivers mature).

I was thinking of going with the entry level X-Fi but I found the same card on newegg for 69 bucks, where as most the other cards options seem to be more competively priced. Any reason why I should go with a maingear installed card vs installing it myself.

Also, I'm just looking for a good card to game with right now. No fancy bells and whistles needed.

Any suggestions?

Well...I do believe they set up 100% of drivers so to make sure they work when you get your system.

As if you were to install one, you have to get the drivers setup, etc.

Also, what specs you looking at with your new system?
Just curios. :)

Black Aluminum Finish
MAINGEAR 750W Ultra Quiet Power Supply
Asus P5N-E SLI nForce 650i SLI
E6400 Core 2
Intel Quiet CPU Cooler
2048MB Corsair DDR2 PC5300 DDR667 (2x1024MB)
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache - SATA II
16X DVD-ROM - Black
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB PCIe
Onboard 8-channel High Definition Audio
Dual Gigabit LAN
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition

the only thing im still contemplating is whether the e6400 is gonna be noticeably different than the e6300 and whether the fan will make a difference with this setup.

also do the xp drivers for the 8800gts suck. I mainly play WoW and would be sad if i had persistent problems.

The 8800GTS drivers for XP work perfectly for me. I have almost the same build as you do and I can run EQ2 almost completely maxed out. I purchased Surpreme Commander last week and I do have IT completely maxed out...AA and all and it runs flawlessly.

The sound card question is a good one; if we're talking about buying parts off Newegg, well...you can build your entire system for less but that really isn't the point when you're paying a builder like MAINGEAR. You're paying them to build a great computer so that you don't have to :)

Welcome to the boards...you'll be pleased no matter what you get from them!

C&C3 will be better, and we all know it. :D

Yeah, Supreme Commander maxed all the way man...and I know I don't have a system that can touch some of the F-131s out there! I'm hoping that C&C 3 will be the stuff but I wasn't too impressed with their last run at it.

I enjoyed Generals, but I know maybe people were not to happy with how Generals turned out. Personal opinions I guess.

Overall many people are saying this is finally getting back to what C&C was like before Generals, with a general feel (modern army ish).

I have not had a chance to play Supreme Commander or C&C3, as my new system has not arrived yet, but have purchased SC and preordered C&C3Tiberium. I'm still playing Total Annihilation!!!
