View Full Version : Monitors from Maingear vs other retailers
Hello MG forums!
Given the strong reviews and sense of customer satisfation, I am strongly considering Maingear systems for myself and my wife soon.
The 24" Samsung widescreen seems to be the sweet spot for monitors for us. However, the price from Maingear (and also from some other system integrators) is about $300 more than other online stores selling computer components. This is quite a difference and the only pricing difference I can't explain to myself. Is this just reflecting economics like volume pricing and discount retailing or is there another reason for this difference.
I realize I can get the monitor from anywhere but I'm curious if there is added value I'm not taking into account.
Thank you!

We bought a Dell 24 widescreen for this one. We have a Samsung on our Velocity Micro...we actually like the Dell better since it was cheaper.
Both were bought separately from the computer. I specifically asked that question from both companies (MG & VM) - both honestly said there was no difference so get them where they are cheapest -- but don't forget to factor in shipping costs.

37" Westy ftw! nuttin completes the 133tness of a maingear uber rig like the notorious westy! It is sick!
heh heh, I confess I did check out the Westinghouse 37". First, my wife won't go for it :?. She says the 24" is rediculously big already, although we did look at the new 27-inchers . People say they run hot and can sometimes be pixelated. I haven't found one to look at yet. Any comments?
Whorton5, so the Dell and Samsung are about the same in terms of quality and features?
Thanks RottynDawg!

Hello Obex,
It all depends on what you plan to use it for. assuming the response time is satisfactory on all these options for your gaming needs, you may want to take the resolution into account:
* Westinghouse Digital LVM-37w3 LCD Monitor as recommended by xBarbarian is 1920x1080 (for 37 inch, and a street price between $1,000 and $1,100)
* The Samsung 244T you are considering is 1920 x 1200 (for 24 inch and a street price around $700)
* The Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP is also 1920x1200 (also 24 inch and around the same price as the Samsung)
If $700 is the price range you are targeting., I would personally go for the Dell over the Samsung because of its faster response time (brightness is only slightly better on the Samsung)
Good luck !! 8)
Thanks for the opinions! Update is that Dell dropped the price of the 24" to $579 with a $100 rebate and that made up my mind. Grabbed two of them. Incidentally, the Dell 30" has a $230 rebate and a price of $1269. (CRYTEX, did you get yours already?)

Yes Obex, I have the 30 inch which I got for $1350, but .......I don't have yet my "Yellow Submarine" MG rig to connect it to ............the wait is killing me !!!......but I know from everything I read on this board and elsewhere that MG is meticulously putting it together for me so I'll wait patiently (maybe not that patiently) until it is assembled and thoroughly tested. :D
P.S. you don't have a time machine, by any chance ? :?:
If so, please set time a couple of weeks forward, would you ?

Good one, Dreamer. :)
So I guess, all I have to do is read your email 241,920 times and my rig will be there......

HAHA, to funny guys.
A good way to past the time is to think of a few things you want to do first when you get your new machine. Like things you want to look for, make sure everything is working right. I bet everything will be fine, but I am a bit excessive compulsive about certain things so I check everything I get over and over.
~Also, what games/stuff do you plan on doing when you get your PC, especially with that lovely 30" dell, /droll I wish I could have one, but I have no machine that could run it at native res, or even run it at all.

Thanks for the advice, Dreamer. :D
Actually, other than connecting all the peripherals, loading additional software and seeing if everything seems to work fine, is there a more systematic approach you'd recommend for checking that everything is working the way it is supposed to ?
P.S., on the game side, the day CRYSIS comes out I'll be playing it on this baby !! 8)

I actually wish Maingear or anyone else would sell Dell monitors, then maybe there would be some buying security with that horrid panel lottery nonsense that i'm hoping they put a stop to once they get the reigns on the supply situation with the 2008wfp model.
