Do you guys run Windows Firewall in Vista? I turned it off because, with my router and our other computer not networked to this one, I figured it isn't necessary. Am I correct? Does it bog down the system at all? Lastly, if I don't need it and want it off - is there any way to get rid of that stupid little red shield with the X on it in the system tray on the lower right hand side of my display?

I run it, yes. No, i don't think it casues any additional lag whatsoever, really.

I have a 15Mb/s cable connection, and it rocks fine, also, i have the D-Link DGL4300 Gaming router

here's a speedtest I ran..just now for you to see..firewalls shouldn't casue an issue

and that speedtest is at 530 pm est, a high usage period. if I run at say 3am, ive actually come very close to MAX theoretical trhoughput for this connection.

The second...with is actually faster...so OK, it stays on - thanks for the link!

How's your upload so fast?

my upload went to 2Mb/s when i pd to go to the 15Mb/s cap. Thats one of the benefits of the 15Mb/s, at least on my Road Runner's local ISp thru Bright house

and that upl;oad bump definately helps, beacuse with higher dl, there needs to be higher up, TCP uses ack's to confirm packet reception , and parity

Gee, no wonder I hate my internet so much.
Though there is no test site for Houston, which is the oddest thing seeing as we are in the top 5 for largest cities. Though probably in the bottom for actually best places to live.

I love the graphics but I'm not so sure how reliable that site is. I ran about 10 different tests to different cities and got much better rates picking cities that were further away and NOT the recommended city :)

That was the best I could get with the recommended city...Portland where I currently live :)
