Hey All,

With my system shipping soon in the coming week(s) I am wondering what you guys use to backup everything. Do you prefer DVDs/another hard drive/etc? What programs do you use (Norton Ghost, etc)?

I know Maingear ships the system with a basic restore disk, however, I will be installing other goodies such as some of the games I play a lot such as WOW and having to reinstall/repatch is a pain.

So what do you recommend and why?

Thanks!

Depends on what exactly you want back up. If it is just data then I would us a external drive, but for peograms a DVD is your best bet. Just be careful your dvd is exactly what you want.

Definitely depends on what you want to back up.

Right now I use the following product to synchronize my files between all three computers:

I set it up about a year ago and don't have to worry about it. With this approach, my files are accessible directly instead of having to go through a restore, and the music and pictures are the same on all three computers :)

I recently saw an online backup product that is very affordable and would protect in case of fire, etc... I may switch to this solution soon.

I use Acronis Home 10. Cheap, powerful, idiot-proof!http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

U can make image backups of directories or the whole disk, and through backup, you can store locally or on a ftp/network share. Restoring is easy, just boot off the cd, point to where you're image is and within a few minutes you're back to normal :D Also good for backing up to dvd if you wish. Doesn't compare to Ghost.
