For the past couple of weeks now the guys at work have been talking about 2142 on how crazy amounts of fun it is to log on and create our own squad and communicate with freinds via ventrilo or teamspeak. So last Friday night I hit up my local GameStop and I picked up a copy of Battlefield 2142. Excited, I went home, popped in the DVD, and started the install. A couple of minutes later... BAM! Installation was finished and I was off to play for the rest of the night... so I get to login screen and I found out I had to get some EA-Downloader to download all the latest patches for all my EA Games (which I think is the smartest thing that’s happened to PC gaming since STEAM), naturally I was impressed since before we'd have to manually go to the game website, download the patch, and install it manually. (This could get pretty annoying after a while of updates)

Once I got the EA Downloader, it downloaded the patch for me, installed it and I loaded 2142 once again. This time once I reached the login screen it kept sending me a message saying I need to update to the newest patch to be eligible for play (even though EA-Downloader had updated already for me). So I thought it could of been a glitch or a bug in EA-Downloader that EA still had to fix out NO BIGGY so I restarted my rig. Once loaded into windows, I launched 2142 for the 3rd time. This time once I hit the login screen I encountered an interface where I had to create a login and fill in some typical info (Similar to BF2). So I filled out the info, created a login, created a Soldier and I was in a server for the first time.

All I have to say about 2142 once i logged on was WOW... the graphics are basically the same thing as BF2 but with all new environments, new futuristic weapons, new vehicles (ex. Mech Walkers, buggy’s, different types of futuristic tanks, helicopters, air transport vehicles and much more) make the game so addicting and fun its not even um... funny? lol… Anyway so what really gets you hooked to the game is the impressive ranking system EA built in the game. As you kill people, capture silos (similar to capture the flag), destroy enemy vehicles and other stuff, you gain career points, once you hit a certain number of career points you move up to your next rank.. NOW this is actually more fun then it sounds because once you move up a rank you get to unlock either a player ability (run faster, extra grenades, extra clip, and many others) or you can unlock a gun/or upgrade from the categories of either Recon, Support, Assault, or Engineer as you unlock abilities and weapons you become faster, stronger, and smarter then your opponent therefore only driving him to get a better arsenal and abilities than you. Once you start playing, mite I add, all you think about is getting to that next rank of yours just to get your new unlock, trust me ax3ss and myself have been there and so will many others hehe...

Now I know in games its the biggest deal when you run towards your opponent and you knife them instead of shooting but if you think its a big deal in other games like CS,CS:S,DOD:S,COD2 (and others) wait until your in 2142 and you knife your opponent (or ally, depending if your that evil gamer or not lol) its simply an amazing indescribable feeling of victory rushing threw your veins lol. In Battlefield 2142 once you knife someone you collect there Dog Tag and you keep it forever which is fun because if you knife your friends you have something to hold on to keep reminding them. .. Once you’ve collected 50 unique dog tags you get a knife upgrade (doesn’t really do much more then the knife you start off with) but just looks cooler and I guess makes you feel like your wicked at knifing lol…

The guns in the game are all simple enough for a total noob to just pick up and play, it would of been nice if EA added the drop/pick up gun feature we see in allot of other games, but I respect there uniqueness. EA Still has allot of glitches and bugs that need to be sorted and fixed but everything comes with time and patience. I have no doubt in my mind that if you go out right now and pick up this title, it WILL be the most fun PC Game to play with your friends or your “e-friends” until something new comes around.

I just went out and picked up this game yesterday, due to the fact everyone at MAINGEAR is raving about it. Now I have to start playing, so I am willing to play anyone. Im definetly in RottynDawg's boat with getting owned, but I'm willing to help all of you get better. haha

I might be willing to be target practice myself it it means getting to hookup with people from Maingear and these forums! Is there an official Maingear server hosting this thing? I'll have to wait till my new system shows up and I can sneak in buying the game...my wife might not like me buying MORE games :)

hahaha, I hear that. My Girlfriend yelled at me yesterday for picking the game up.

We actually used to have a server for when everyone was in the counter strike mode. We probably will throw one together again and build a MAINGEAR clan for all us to join in. However, some of us just moved and in the new places are still waiting to get the internet hooked up. Until then (about week or two) we might have to wait. But once we are all hooked up, a nice game of battlefield will always release some stress after a hard days work. Im am now looking foward to these nights. haha

I think most of us here can agree with the wife or gilrfriend issue here...LOL....My soon to be wife hates it when I sit infront of the computer for more than an hour. When we buy a house imma have to lock myself in the basement so i won't be bothered. :D

Yea I learned about the whole girlfriend thing when World Of Warcraft came out and I would never leave the house. Or I would always feel "sick" and didn't want to come out... :dizzy:

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this.

No excuse though. Ok back on topic. I was looking at the box today and I noticed the specs of the game right there on the box and remembered that I never anwsered this question. So to give it to you straight, I will word for word give you what the box says.

hahaha....true true...I know I know....I had that coming.

But to be honest, I like my women better, and choose them over gaming anyday. That is until I get into the game
